Let’s not waste LG’s Africa Cup & Airtel’s Sponsorship

LG and Airtel have both come out strongly to support Kenya Football in its growth.

The loss to Sudan by the National Soccer team Harambee Stars and the loss to Uganda by our under 23 years team proves and confirms that we do not have structures to develop soccer players from one stage to the next level.

It is quite a shame and disgrace for both our national teams to continue losing matches up to a point where Kenyans do not have any confidence in the results as the outcome can be predicted.

Right now, we have seen sponsors coming in to support football at different levels but this goodwill has not been translated into a winning formula since the people who have been charged with the authority of running football in the Country simply do not know how to do so.

All the structures that are supposed to be in place so that we can have continuity have gaping holes that cannot be filled. In short the structures have collapsed and Kenyan football has reached a stage where it is a matter of gambling.

Airtel's annual sponsorship of the Kenya Secondary School Sports games for the next three years is a huge investment, which football administrators and especially the Federation need to take stock and invest in the schools program as one of the avenues of making sure that talent is tapped right from the grassroots.

If sponsors like Airtel can see this and they are in the telecommunication industry, why can't the officials who have been charged with the responsibility of running and developing football not see this?

The LG Africa Cup that featured Kenya Vs Sudan has definitely raised the standards of sponsorship presentation not only in football but all sports.

LG pumped and invested in money to put up a good show and off course pull off a marketing strategy that works for them, using football.

By now, both FKL and KFF would have been having an able marketing team whose duty would have been to go out and secure sponsorship and also create events that will generate sponsorship and interest.

These events need to be built right from the junior level going up to the senior level.

Football cannot continue to rely on gate collection as is the case to raise funds for development. Kenyan football has to be run in a professional manner and it has to be run like a business, with all the structures that make a successful organisation get good profits.

Already the Kenya Secondary School Sports Association games have provided this opportunity, what are we waiting for, if our professional players like Dennis Oliech and Mac Donald Mariga came through the school structure?

EXTREME SPORTS LAUNCHES INAUGURAL Ksh 1 MILLION SUPER 8 WOMEN SOCCER TOURNAMENT

In the year 2004, Extreme Sports Limited launched the inaugural Men's Super 8 Soccer Tournament in Nairobi. The Super 8 Soccer Tournament covered the entire Nairobi Province and over a period of time has come to involve over 100 soccer clubs.
All tournaments that have been held have been hosted successfully and due to its success there has been demand for this initiative to be introduced to the other parts of the country.

Today, as we move towards the final preparations of the 9th edition of the Men's Super 8 tournament, Extreme Sports Management would like to finally roll out a pilot women edition that will first be played in Nairobi and thereafter will roll out to the rest of the Country.

Extreme Sports Management Ltd will be pumping a total of Ksh 1 Million towards the Super 8 Women Soccer Tournament, which will kick off on the 26th of July 2011 in various venues in Nairobi.
Of the total amount of Ksh 1 Million, Ksh Three Hundred Thousand (Khs 300,000/=) will go towards prize money to the winning teams, while the rest will be used for logistics, administration and marketing of the tournament.

The prize structure is as follows

Constituency stage
1st team 15,000
2nd team 10,000
3rd team 5,000

Total 30,000 by 8 constituency = 240,000

Super 8 stage
1st team 20,000
2nd team 15,000
3rd team 10,000
Super 8 stage Total 45,000
Golden boot award 15,000

Grand Total 300,000

Women football has never been taken seriously at any one time in the history of football in Kenya. Women footballers have always been taken as an afterthought and it is quite absurd that since Kenya's independence we have not been able to develop Women football the way the Men's football has been developed.

With the inaugural Super 8 Women tournament, Extreme Sports Ltd believes it will set the stage of moving women football from one off tournaments to the setting up of a permanent women league that will see Women teams compete along the same lines as our established men teams who are actively involved in the various leagues taking place in the country.

The inaugural Super 8 women soccer tournament that kicks off this month will use the same concept that the Men's edition has being using.

The women's Super 8 soccer tournament is a challenge to Kenyan football officials that there is quite a lot that needs to be done in the development of football in Kenya and that football is not just for Men but football is also for women and the youth. The current football structure has been unfair and has not invested in a system that sees both the Women and Youth leagues develop giving an opportunity to them to grow within the system.

It is our belief that there are many talented Kenyans out there who have not been given the opportunity to showcase their skills and this event will provide a stage for both the players and clubs/teams to be discovered.

Just like the Men's edition, the success of this tournament will lead to direct and indirect employment opportunities in areas such as sports management services, recruitment of match officials, advertising industry, security and casual labourers, just to mention a few.
